Of the scholar Tomas, retired and lost to a past that haunts, his knowledge of politics, and magic, and mysteries only ferments into an alcoholic apathy as he fixates on the source of the Empire's might: the strange and disturbing substance Sanguine.

This is a story of those who fight, those who suffer, those who control.
